My taxi driver had offered me a tour of Nairobi, beginning with a drive through Kibera, the largest slum in Kenya. I was skeptical of being a tourist in the midst of abject poverty but went anyway. I was humbled to see that the people there were not miserable. Though they live on a dollar or two a day the area was full of life, bustle, and smiling people. I wish we could redistribute resources more evenly but it's heartening to see people transcending their cirumstances.
