This is my newly found love interest, the Esraj. It is a stringed bowing musical instrument that originated in Bengal. Apart from Hindustani classical music it is widely used as an accompanying instrument with Rabindrasangeet. Although it has common structural features with Sitar and Sarangi, Esraj has it's distinct existence thanks to the fine tuned science of music. A deeply sympathetic tune primarily characterizes Esraj and due to this feature the melody created by Esraj touches the soul.
