    Landfills release the greenhouse gas methane, which may lead to global warming, increasing the ozone hole. That was an long term (nearly one year) emergency rubbish situation in my city Reggio Calabria, Southern Italy three years ago. Suburbs and also in the center was covered by garbage because city cleaning service was out of order cause of mafia infiltration.
