I joined a marine mammal survey in the coasts of northern Chile as a volunteer, hoping to see this mysterious creature. I knew Risso's dolphins are rare and little is known about their biology and distribution, but their reported visits to the area offered a chance. I woke up every morning telling myself “today is the day”, and we navigated for several days, encountering many other cetacean species along the way. It was on my last day when we finally found them and managed to capture this image.
