The morning of my friend's funeral I walked out to the edge of the lake. It was bitterly cold but the walk was meant to distract me from the sadness I felt. However, there was no escaping the reality of death. Someone else's funeral was taking place in the church behind me. Only the pallbearers were outdoors to bring the coffin in. The mourners sat in the relatively warm church. Losing a loved one feels deeply personal and yet everyone who goes through it shares the abstract feeling of Loss.
