The yellow paste on Burmese's faces is usually used as a protection from the sun. However, when I visited Mahagandayon monastery in Mandalay Hill, it seemed like it had a different purpose...for alms. Their parents rushed to the foreigner and gave the kids right away for a photo op. Foreigner then handed over Kyats. It has certainly become their practice. The baby clearly needs some sleep, the other kid, isnt she supposed to have baby hair at her age?
