Among of the greatest things in New Orleans are the brass bands. This music moves the listener as no other music can. It's a tradition dating back to the19th Century when military music (what bands traditionally played) came to be blended with African musical styles brought to this continent by slaves. This mixture formed one of the foundations of what we now call jazz.To this day the streets of New Orleans are filled with music, extending that rich tradition to the enjoyment of all who visit.
