Edit Photo Details Winter Survival Strategy   #winter #rhododendron #cold_weather #curled_leaves
Minimalism is one strategy plants use to survive cold weather. This photo of a rhododendron branch in my backyard after a cold winter night shows the curled leaves that conserve moisture by reducing the surface area of the leaves that are exposed to the cold. As the temperature warms the leaves begin to uncurl.
