    On the trailhead to the Yanapaccha glacier, I spotted the famous Laguna 69 across the valley. As the glaciers above melt, they form beautiful high-alpine lakes with rich mineral content, giving it that bright aquamarine color. While they're stunning to see in person, when these lakes become overfull with meltwater, they threaten the towns below with glacial lake outburst floods -- the largest in the area killed 20,000 in just 3 minutes in Yungay!
