In old Hawaii, if you had broken the law the penalty was dead.Your only option for survival was reach a Pu'uhonua, a sacred space where you would be protected from punishments because conventional laws have no power/are not valid. In nowadays Hawaii around 250 live in a place they call Waianae Pu'uhonua, where they feel protected from the odds of society.
