When I am asked why the participants in my photos have such serious looks, I reply that I want to capture their truth and the story they tell with their gaze. Ana Guadalupe Aviles and I have an intuitive relationship. In this photo, she was channeling our collective ancestral diversity. In both of our cultural environments, she Salvadorian, I Mexican-American, there are elements of color, and the whispers of wisdom that our ancestors give us. Ana has enhanced my spiritual and creative life.
