The picture shows a ciliat, respectively a part of the housing of a tintinid. Ciliates are unicellular and play an important role in the microbial loop. It is still very little explored how the warming, the input of nutrients and microplatics on the microbial loop works. A disruption of these important members of the food chain can have drastic effects on the ecosystem. Picture made wits a Nikon Eclipse E800 with a Nikon DXM 1200F.
