Mother of the City
The statue of Julia Sturtervant Tuttle located in Bayfront Park, Downtown, Miami shows a welcoming gesture to the rising sun. Julia Tuttle is credited with being the "mother of Miami" for having convinced railroad magnate Henry Flagler to bring his railroad to the infant city. Along with the railroad came much of the needed infrastructural development, settlers, businesses and vacationers which made Miami into the metropolis it is today.
