I rejoice when the herons return. While the ice is beginning to melt from the river, it is so very cold. What a difference from their southern climate. Yet the herons are busy searching for food and nesting materials and they really don't seem to mind the change. This is the only time of year in Wausau to see such an abundance of herons in one spot other than on their nests in the rookery.
