The Road Beneath the Lake
Our two daughters walking through lake waters on the old Guwahati Shillong Road that was submerged 6 decades ago when a dam was built on Umiam river for hydro electricity generation, creating a large reservoir which today is known as Umiam lake. A very scenic site. Erratic and declining rainfall in recent years however has reduced the water level in the lake and in some months of the year now, a stretch of the old submerged road is exposed from the depths of the lake to create a surreal scene.
