The Bungle Bungle Range in the World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park of Western Australia was only discovered in the 1980s although Aboriginal people have been living in the area for over 20,000 years. The beehive-shaped domes are made of sandstone which was shaped by wind and rain. The orange colored layers are stained with iron and manganese mineral deposits while the darker bands are rocks which hold algal growth.
