Thank you for participating in the “Caption This” assignment! I hope you enjoyed this assignment as much as I did; many of your submissions made me smile. I have a tendency to gravitate to more serious themes and concepts, but as Your Shot Senior Producer Matt Adams reminds me, sometimes people just want to have fun with their photography.

The images I selected for this final story not only meet the assignment theme in the moments photographed, but they are also visually strong. Anyone can take a cute snapshot, but the challenge is: can you also make a good photograph? This final story represents my favorites from more than 11,000 submissions — I invite you to share the links to your favorites (that are NOT your photos) in the story discussion below, and more importantly, to describe why you like them.

As a reminder, the National Geographic’s Caption This feature, which inspired this assignment, is published every Monday on their Facebook page. I am going to share with Associate Producer Nathan Strauss, who curates this feature, many of my favorites for his consideration, so good luck!

Congratulations to these photographers, but to everyone who participated, great job. I had so much fun. Matt is right: sometimes it good to have fun with photography.
