I want to thank everyone for showing my "Everyday Moments" assignment so much love and support. I was astonished by the 16,000 submissions and more than 3,000 discussion board posts. Over the past few weeks my everyday moments have been precious time spent engaging with this talented community of photographers. I wrote in one of my Editor's Updates that every image is like a stitch in a tapestry, and each stitch tells its own story. And when all the stitches are put together, we would have a beautiful tapestry that tells the story of our global community. You have helped me create the most exquisite tapestry that will give future generations a glimpse into how we lived our everyday moments all around the world.
As I was going through the submissions I thought of how mesmerizing it would be to create one complete day of universal moments. I choose 24 photos that represent a 24-hour period of dazzling sunrises, quiet moments with family, captivating images of wildlife, and illustrations of how we labor to provide for our loved ones. I wanted a collection of images that demonstrates how, although we may live thousands of miles apart, we are still neighbors. We have much more in common then we may know, and hopefully that comes through in this collection of images.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the community through the mentorship program, which will help us become better photographers and more thoughtful storytellers. The mentorship program is challenging from beginning to end, but the rewards greatly outweigh any of those challenges. I have learned so much about the time and dedication it takes to be a photo editor. I have so much more respect for the work they do here at Your Shot. I loved this process right from the start. I have learned to collaborate with editors and other mentees like Rose and Sukanya. They have all taught me how powerful storytelling through photography can be. We all see the world through different eyes, but when we come together and are willing to work alongside each other we can create a vision of this world that is more powerful than even spoken words can demonstrate.
