The prompt for this assignment was simple: submit your best photos taken between September 1-30, 2018. The 30 photos selected for this final story — for the 30 days in September — are sequenced in chronological order, creating a visual diary of our world during the month. As I referenced in the "My Best Photos of August 2018" final story, through your submissions, I find myself reflecting on what I was doing on the same days of my favorite photos. Because we are a global community representing 195 countries, your photos continue to transport me to somewhere else in the world without leaving Washington DC. Together we are documenting the history of our world while revealing the similarities and differences in the everyday moments of our lives.

What I love about these “My Best Photos of (Month)” assignments is that anyone can participate — you just need to be motivated. There is a temptation to only share photos from exotic locations, but your best photo from the month could be shot today. The simplicity in the assignment prompt levels the playing field for the entire community — 12 Your Shot photographers were published for the first time in this final story. In addition to the 30 selected photographers, I also featured the comments of 16 Your Shot photographers in my Editor’s Notes. I am paying attention to them for consideration in my Mentorship Program because I am interested in rewarding those who are already giving back to the community.

“My Best Photos of October 2018” launches on October 25, 2018. The prompt for this assignment is simple: submit your best photos taken from October 1-31, 2018. Submission deadline will be November 1, 2018. If you are submitting photos NOT taken during the right time for the assignment, you are only cheating yourself. These “My Best Photos of (Month)” assignments encourage you to keep shooting and sharing new photos. This is how you mature into a better photographer and more thoughtful storyteller — one photo at a time. Keep shooting. You got this.
