When I started working as a photo editor for Your Shot I was told within my first two weeks that I would be running an assignment. I didn’t know exactly how this worked or what to expect image-wise. I will say that having a theme like “Undiscovered” can be difficult; it’s a broad topic and even with editor's updates you can find yourself confused or wandering down streets looking for the right image. There were over 18,000 images submitted to this assignment, and I edited those down to the final 31. You photographers did not make it easy on me at all.
You all took the theme of "Undiscovered" and showed me images of new areas you were discovering, new angles or perspectives, and new people you were meeting for the first time. You told me stories of how you found these images or what was going through your minds before you clicked the shutter, and I was impressed and inspired by all of this.
I’m in an undiscovered territory of my life—I just moved to a new city and started a new job, and although it’s felt like years have passed by it’s only been a little over a month and a half. I’ve been welcomed into this new community that's filled with great photographers, and I look forward to seeing more images, reading more stories, and being inspired by all of your work. Keep discovering new images and places during your journeys.
When asking our users to find the Undiscovered, I was amazed by the images that were submitted. What I've learned at my short time here at Your Shot is that every day is a new experience with what images I'm gong to see. We have users all around the world who are interested in many different topics, from wildlife to landscapes to portraits to underwater photography. All of our users who were apart of this assignment pushed limits with new angles and perspectives and gave me images that I did not expect.
I had no idea what or who a belayer was in diving until I saw this underwater shot. I learned that all of you weren't afraid to explore to paths on your way home or to go to new towns you haven't visited yet to find images for this assignment. In the end I believe that these 31 images told a pretty great story about how our users are seeing the world and how they are documenting it.
Thank you all for submitting to this assignment, with over 18,000 images there were a few that didn't make this edit that I really wanted to show. Thanks for making my first assignment a memorable one.
