Thanks for participating in this visual diary assignment. I love seeing how the global Your Shot community spent the same 24-hour period; think about where you were on July 1st as you look at this final story. I look forward to seeing you for “A Visual Diary: On August 1, 2019, I…” assignment, which launches on July 31st. I have invited Your Shot photographer Stephanie Thomson to guest edit this upcoming assignment with me because of her tremendous effort in articulating WHY she likes the photos of her peers in this and "A Visual Diary: June 2019 final story".
Of the 20 images selected for this final story, 4 Your Shot photographers were published for the first time:
Thanks to the 7 Your Shot photographers who left thoughtful comments articulating WHY they liked the photos of their fellow community members.
I have selected Your Shot photographer Hiro Kurashina for the portfolio review. I really love that he observed this scene and patiently waited for the moment when the person pointed to something out the window with the other individual also paying attention. I also agree with Your Shot photographer Stephanie Thomson’s comment, which I featured in my Editor’s Note. When I looked at his 100 Editor’s Favorites, I remember favoriting a lot of his images. I loved that he uploaded his first photo in 2013 and six years later, is still participating — he was published in my “A Visual Diary: June 2019” final story yesterday.
Tomorrow (Thursday July 25, 2019) I will be launching “A Visual Diary: July 2019” assignment — I have invited Your Shot alum Esther Horvath, who did an assignment for National Geographic. Together we will select one community member published in the final story for a portfolio review. “As a photographer you always have to ask yourself what interest you, which direction do you want to go,” says Horvath. “And portfolios should reflect that.”
